Creating your Wildfire Action Plan is the first step in preparing to survive a wildfire.
Here’s how to create your plan:
Note that our neighborhood’s designated emergency meeting location is the Calvary Church, 16330 Los Gatos Blvd. (across from Van Meter Elementary School).
In coordination with the Los Gatos Police, Santa Clara County Fire, CERT and DART, the Town will set up an emergency center here and have emergency items like water, food, first aid, etc., available.
Identify and practice your escape route. Note that you must go down College if at all possible! It will be much harder for firefighters to find and help you if you go down the trail.
Make an evacuation plan for pets.
Pick an out-of-area emergency contact for your family.
Write your plans down on the Family Communication Plan document and keep copies handy.
Check your fire extinguishers’ expiration dates and make sure you know how to use them.
Know where your gas, electric and water main shut-offs are and how to safely shut them down.
